Before You Build: Getting the Most Out of Your Tech Budget (Part 4)

This is the final installment of our 4-part series entitled Before You Build. We have taken a look at 30-years of projects and distilled all of the “could’ve, would’ve, and should’ves” into 4 insider tips to help you get the most out of your technology budget in your next project.

Send us a quick email to to request a simple one-pager with all 4 tips.

So, let’s look at our fourth and final tip: – choose the right partner to bring your vision to life.

There are three types of firms in the low-voltage systems industry:  consultants, system integrators, and design-build system integrators. Consultants only do design and engineering. System integrators do programming and installation. A design-build system integrator is able to do it all, allowing you to work with a single firm from engineering through the commissioning of the system. Design-build system integrators are able to look beyond vendor specifications and apply the practical knowledge of ease of installation and user experience of the systems they are engineering for you.

It is this practical experience that allows them to build value into the project from the beginning – reducing installation labor and creating a great user experience.

So, now you know. Make sure you are doing all 4 things every time you embark on an upgrade or new construction project.

  1. ID and engage the right stakeholders

  2. Engage the low-voltage systems engineers early – during the design phase of the project

  3. Focus on the experience you want associated with your brand in that space

  4. Use a design-build system integrator

By doing these four things every time, you will make sure you get the absolute maximum value from your technology budget.
